Antisemitism is unAmerican
One of the most tragic things I've learned while meeting thousands of West Lafayette residents this year is that our Jewish neighbors, friends, and classmates have been suffering hate, threats, and discrimination, in large part because the recent resurfacing of thousands of years of discord and violence thousands of miles away. America is better than that. West Lafayette is better than that.
West Lafayette's signature festival is Global Fest. It should be a reminder to everyone that we are a community. If love and civility don't carry the day, our state attorney general has recently reminded local police that Indiana has laws that protect any and all Hoosiers against abuse because of who they are. That's a timely and unfortunately necessary message.
